NGC 945, NGC 948は、地球から約1億9千万光年の距離にある渦状銀河です。データからは接近している銀河のはずです。しかし、NGC 948の青い腕には、軽微な乱れと大きめな星団雲が見えますが、NGC 945は、その外観からは顕著な干渉の痕跡は見えません。2つの銀河の赤方偏移のデータは大きめの誤差を含むようなので実際にはデータよりもっと離れているのかも知れません。2つの銀河は、周囲の銀河（NGC 950, NGC 943 など）とともに銀河グループを形成しているとされています。
NGC 945には、超新星SN 1998dt が南の銀河腕の上で発見されています。

Arp 309は、干渉する2つのレンズ状銀河NGC 943とNGC 942です。上の画像からははっきりしませんが、2つの銀河の南と北に淡い恒星ストリームが伸びています。

広域画像の左下に見えている、淡い銀河ですがとても面白い形の銀河です。棒構造を持つマゼラン型不規則星雲という分類になっていますが、PanSTARRSの画像を見ると複数の腕が棒構造の端からだけではなく銀河の中心からも出ています。おそらく小銀河と合体中なのでしょうが、複数の渦状銀河が絡み合っているような姿に見えます。

About constellation Cetus, which you already know. We’re learning: The constellation was named after Cetus, the sea monster from the Greek myth about Andromeda. In the myth, the princess was sacrificed to the monster as punishment for her mother Cassiopeia’s boastfulness. The constellation Cetus lies in the region of the sky called the Water, along with several other constellations with names evocative of water: Eridanus (the river), Aquarius (the water bearer), Pisces (the fish), etc. It was catalogued by the Greek astronomer Ptolemy in the 2nd century.
Thanks for your commentary, it is much appreciated. I did not know about the area in the sky called “water”. I have been to see the Princess Andromeda reef in Israel. According to the commentary there, the monster that attacked Princess Andromeda was a giant octopus.
